TOEFL iBT Scoring
Each of the four sections of the TOEFL iBT – reading, writing, listening, and speaking – is scored on a scale of 0 – 30. You receive a score for each section of the test as well as an overall score, which is the total of the section scores added together. The highest overall score you can get on the TOEFL iBt is 120.
Different universities accept various minimum scores for admission purposes. In addition, universities may ask for a minimum score in a particular section of the test, based on the academic program you are applying for.
Usually, your TOEFL score is posted on the TOEFL iBt online registration system 15 days after the date of the test. It is then mailed to you and to those score recipients that you have designated in advance. If you need additional official score reports to be sent, other than those you identified when you registered, you may request this be done for an additional fee.
TOEFL iBT scores are generally valid for a period of up to 2 years after the exam.
